Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do on my first day?

Arrive about 10 minutes early so you can sign a waiver and ask any questions you have. Please wear either athletic attire with no zippers, buttons, or pockets, or typical uniform for the class. Bring water or other hydration source. Don’t wear any jewelry. Have fun!

Am I allowed to wear colored Gis?

Yes.

When is my due date?

The day of the month you sign up. For instance, if you sign up on the 21st then you will need to pay dues by the 21st of the next month.

Do I need to bow on and off the mat?

Not unless you want to.

Can I ask higher ranked students to roll?

Yes, but don’t be offended if they say no, thank you. If they say no, it is probably because they have an injury, are waiting to roll with another student, or are tired out.

Do I need a uniform for my first class?

No, athletic attire will do until you decide if you are going to sign up.

Can I watch a class?

If you feel more comfortable watching a class before participating, then please do so.

Who can sign me up?

Snake, Bart, Nick, Dylan, or whoever is instructing the class.

How many classes can I attend?

As many as you want.

What if I am going to be late to class?

Try to be on time, but if you are late for good reason, we understand. If you are going to be late, please arrive quietly, change quickly, and join in when the instructor is not in the middle of teaching a technique. If you are late because you are trying to avoid warm-ups then it is not acceptable.

Yes, please see Snake or Dylan to purchase a Gi or any other gear.

Do you provide drinks?

No, please bring your own hydration source that has a lid.
